Anatolian Goddesses from Prehistory to Late Antiquity
Anatolia has hosted many different Goddesses throughout history; it is a unique piece of land where their presence, power, and energy are still felt today. It is necessary to appreciate and feed off this land, where every inch of it permeates the female identity.
In this context, Doğa Taşlardan, known for its “Memory Refreshing Routes” designed around women-centered alternative history narratives, and Rezan Has Museum have jointly designed a full “Mother’s Day” meeting for cultural heritage enthusiasts.
The event begins with the “Anatolian Goddesses from Prehistory to Late Antiquity” seminar prepared and presented by Doğa Taşlardan. Throughout the presentation, which progresses chronologically, the adventure of the transformation of the female image into a goddess in Anatolian depiction art is being investigated in the light of archaeological data; From the oldest limestone female figurine in Anatolia in Bilecik, dating back to 14,500 BC, to the pregnant women of the Göbeklitepe Culture, emphasizing fertility… From the iconic woman of the Late Neolithic of Central Anatolia in Çatalhöyük to the Star Hunters of Kilya Bay… From the bronze women of the Hatti Country within the Kızılırmak Arch to the Sun Goddess of Arinna, who was held in high esteem by the Hittites with a Thousand Gods…From the largest Cybele statue in the Black Sea region, unearthed in the Kurul Castle of Ordu, to the largest Cybele relief in Anatolia from the Hellenistic Period in Çorum… From Matar Kubileya, whose cult grew and flourished in the mountainous Phrygia and was carried over to the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds over time, to the Ionian Artemis of Ephesus.
Afterward, guests are offered the chance to visit the archaeological artifacts of the Rezan Has Museum, starting from the 9,000-year-old Neolithic female figurines belonging to all layers of Anatolian chronology, the most comprehensive Urartian Period collections under the roof of private museums in Turkey, and the Urartian Belts Exhibition with its original pieces that have come to light for the first time, accompanied by the museum’s expert guides.
