This unique and interdisciplinary artistic offering, which centers on the figures of Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) and Frederic Mompou (1893-1987), consists of an exhibition of large scale photographs, a music concert with digitally processed images and a series of lecture and workshops that reflect on the symbolic and spiritual register of these two geniuses of Catalan and universal art.
The format of the exhibition offers a broad and detailed look at the spiritual, artistic and technical dimensions of Gaudí’s architecture and Mompou’s music. The exhibition, from a holistic, suggestive and educational perspective, reflects both artistic and expression. The aim is quite simply to draw the general public closer to the essence of this art so that they may better enjoy and understand it.
Presented for the first time in 2002 in Spain, it started its tour of Latin America in 2003. The tour was organized by both the Spanish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, through its embassies and cultural centers, and also the Agency for International Cooperation, in coordination with museums, concert halls and American universities.
The success achieved in every country has allowed the tour to be extended until the end of 2005,thereby being presented in most countries across the continent.
“The Sound of Light” is an art space for image and sound.
It is based on a subtle dialogue between Antoni Gaudí’s architecture and the music of Frederic Mompou, enticing us to contemplate and understand the meaning of art.
Gaudí and Mompou offer a modernity that is based on an extraordinary originality, not just through its uniqueness, but also through its reference to the meaning of the word in its deepest sense.
“The Sound of Light” exhibition congregating photographs of Gaudi’s works taken by Marc Llimargas and Mompou’s music through a piano concert given by Adolf PL shall be inaugurated as of February 13th 2008 followed by a series of conferences based on the point of origin of these two artists work.
